He eventually taught himself to play, but it was not an easy thing. The process was a long road of playing by ear, taking bits and pieces here and there from other guitarists, and wading through piles of guitar books. He finally reached a level on guitar that matched what he wanted to hear in his head, but the time and effort required to get to that point would have been much less had he found a decent tutor. He began teaching others in the way that he would have liked to have learned and has developed the talents of hundreds of students in the 20 years since; inspiring them through song and his passion and excitement for music, all things guitar, and teaching. |
Lesson Objectives |
From the very first lesson Mike's teaching focuses on the student's goals and what the student wishes to play in terms of music and style. After a month of lessons he/she will have a basic grasp of the instrument and its possibilities as well as basic chord and melody knowledge strengthened by playing songs of the student's choosing (although Mike may have some song suggestions as well).
The objective of all Wall of Sound lessons and curriculum levels is to give students a clear idea of how the guitar may be used in creating music through example, exercise, and song. A further objective is to convey the passion, inspiration, and dedication which are so important to music and the guitar. These are the qualities which make great guitarists and musicians. They keep the learning process fun and exciting, as it should be! |
